Udaipur a royal city popularly known by the lake city situated southwest on Banas River was established by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559. Udaipur is a historic capital of Mewar kingdom due to its prior Rajputana legacy. Maharana Udai Singh II was a descendant of the Sisodias. Sisodias are the oldest and the powerful warrior in Rajasthan. It has believed that Maharana Udai Singh II met one sagacious person while hunting in the Aravalli Hills and that wise person advised Maharana Udai Singh II to build a kingdom in the lush valley assuring him that it would be well protected and as a result Maharana Udai Singh established a splendid kingdom on the spot.
In 1568 Chittorgarh which was the prior capital of Mewar was attacked by Mughal ruler Akbar and to protect Mewar Kingdom Maharana Udai Singh II shifted his kingdom to the fertile valley in Arvalli Hills which was less vulnerable than Chittorgarh. Subsequent Udaipur built-up as a powerful kingdom and since the time pass Mughal ruler started to destabilized, Sisodias reasserted their Freedom and brought back most of Mewar Kingdom apart from Chittorgarh fort. In 1572 Maharana Udai Singh II died. After that Udaipur was succeed by legendary icon Maharana Pratap who fought bravely against Mughals in 1576 at the Haldighati. This bravery clash of Rana Pratap is still remembered throughout in the History of Udaipur.
Mewar rebelled constantly with foreign intruder and it has historic battles till the British intervention. After independence Udaipur merged in the Union of India.
