City Palace Udaipur History

City Palace Udaipur was estabalished by Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559 and it is the largest complex in Rajasthan. Sisodias are the powerful and great warriors in Udaipur and Maharana Udai singh II was a descendant of the Sisodias. It has believed that Mewar Capital was moved to Chittor where almost 80 years Sisodias ruled but soon after Maharana Udai Singh lost control of his kingdom against Mughals and to protect Mewar Kingdom Maharana Udai Singh II shifted his kingdom to the fertile valley near Lake Pichola in Arvalli Hills which was less vulnerable than Chittorgarh.

Royal Angan was the first structure Maharana Udai singh has built and it is said that it was the foundation of the City Palace complex. Subsequent Udaipur built-up as a powerful kingdom and since the time pass Mughal ruler started to destabilized, Sisodias reasserted their Freedom and brought back most of Mewar Kingdom apart from Chittorgarh fort.

In 1572, Maharana Udai singh died and after that Udaipur was succeed by his legendary son Maharana Pratap who fought bravely against Mughals in 1576 at the Haldighati. Udaipur was a peaceful place for few years and this was the time when marvelous palaces were established on the shore of Lake Pinchola. Mewar rebelled constantly with foreign intruder and it has historic battles till the British intervention. After independence Udaipur merged in the Union of India and Mewar kingdom also merged with the Democratic India. Thereafter Mewar kings also lost their royal constitutional rights but due to trust of Udaipur people and they are now running the palaces by creating trust which is well known by the name Mewar Trust. Jagdish Temple Udaipur

Jagdish Temple Udaipur is most visited temples in Udaipur situated inside City Palace built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651. Jagdish Temple Udaipur is devoted to Lord Laxmi Narayan. It is one of the largest temples in Udaipur. It is the three storied temple comprises of spectacularly carved pillars, striking painting walls. Main spire of the temple is approximately 80 feet high and it is adorned with magnificent carving of dancers, musicians and elephants are truly stunned carving.

Jagmandir Island Udaipur is located in on the natural islands in the Pichola Lake near to city Palace. It was created in the 15th century by banjara tribal. Jagat Madir was given to tribute the Maharana Jagat Singh I. Jag Mandir s easily reached by boat from the Bansi ghat. Pavilion of island has some conspicuous carving of elephants on each side of the entry steps four on each side of the palace appear like that they are protector of the palace. Jagmandir Island Udaipur is three storied palace which include graceful Gul Mahal, zenana Mahal and kunwar pada Mahal etc. There is also one museum that depicts the history of the island. Durbar Hall

It was built within the Fatepraksh palace. This hall has lavish interior and weapons of Mewar kings also display in this hall. Gallery of the hall was made for the Royal Womens to observe the Durbar events.
